Biking around Lake Michigan might seem difficult, and it may be. I know it will be worth any and all aches, pains, and discomfort…Anybody think it will warm up?
My name is Hessell Miranda and I’m a 23 year old graduate of UIC. I am ready for my next challenge. Today begins an adventure that will consume the next two weeks, a charity bike ride with Ignite the Spirit, 960 miles around Lake Michigan.
I was born in Mexico, yet I consider Chicago my hometown. I’ve attended school in Chicago since fourth grade. Avondale Elementary School, Logandale Middle School, St. Patrick High School, to the University of Illinois of Chicago.
Biking around Lake Michigan might seem difficult, and it may be. I know it will be worth any and all aches, pains, and discomfort. This is a great opportunity to help fight pediatric cancer. The Chicago Firefighters are working hard to raise money to support pediatric cancer research, it is my pleasure to join them.
I do hope the weather improves.

Kathy, that is such a sweet note. Thank you for caring, and helping St. Baldrick. Please stay in touch, and let us know when your department is having a fundraiser, we would like to help broadcast it! John
Just read about your ride in our local paper today. You were in our town, Marinette, this weekend. Wish I had known, our grandson is a pediaric cancer patient and we held a St.Baldricks event here a couple of weeks ago. It was the first one held in town here. We are just starting to get the word out, there were not any members of our local fire or police depts in our town involved. Thank you for all you are doing. Our grandson is doing great, thanks to the research funded by groups such as yours, he is winning his leukemia battle. He was one of the honored children at a Chicago Fire Dept St.Baldrick event and Police Academy event. I have relatives in both CPD and CFD. Thank you again for all you are doing. Our family would have been there to cheer you on, maybe next year if we know a bit ahead of time.
You guys & gal are truly amazing! I pray for your safe journey around the lake, good weather, painless nights. We look forward to a heck of a party when you all return. I thank you for what you do and hope together we raise monies to find an end to childhood cancer. I thank your families and friends for supporting you and the sacrifices they & you have made to make this dream come true! Your truly are life savers, “Hank is so proud”.
