JUST ANNOUNCED!!!!

The 2013 Run For The Kids will not only benefit Chicagoland area kids. We are dedicating this year’s run to the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School and the children affected by the Boston Marathon attack. Proceeds from the run will benefit all three groups of children.

 

THE CAUSE

Ignite the Spirit began in 2003 in response to 9/11 and the toll it took on the nation and on the families of first responders who lost their lives. Chicago firefighters who helped at Ground Zero resolved to reach out to local families and create a source of financial and emotional help. Ignite also benefits various causes including cancer research and children’s hospitals..The organization’s goal is to offer immediate assistance. Ignite the Spirit : “We’re HERE when you need us.”

 

CARA CERTIFIED RACE

This race has applied for and received the Chicago Area Runners Association designation as a CARA CERTIFIED RACE.  This race has agreed to adhere to and uphold CARA’s Best Practices Guidelines.  These Guidelines embody the highest standards for quality, safety and comfort for participants in a road race.

THE COURSE – TIMING

The USATF sanctioned and certified (IL11043JW) b-tag timed 5k run course begins at the southeast corner of Soldier Field and runs clockwise around the stadium to the Lakefront Trail head south to the turn around (by the Firefighter’s Memorial) and back to the finish. Digital clocks with mile splits will be posted at mile 1, 2, and the finish line. Water and gatorade will be provided on the course. REGISTRATION/T-SHIRTS

$35.00. Race day registration $40.00 (on-site, cash or check only!!) All pre-registered adult registrants will receive a Technical Tee-shirt. Children’s shirts are cotton only! THERE WILL BE NO EXCHANGES OF T-SHIRTS. SHIRTS ARE SEX SPECIFIC. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR SIZES PRIOR TO REGISTRATION.

 

NEW THIS YEAR: TEAMS!

Team Captains MUST register first and will create their team during the registration process. Team Members will register after the team captain has registered and created the team. Team members will then select their team name from the drop down box on the registration form. Prizes will be given for largest team, biggest fundraising team, more TBA! Join the COMPETITIVE TEAM CHALLENGE and your fastest four runners on race day will vie for prizes with other teams!

All pre-registered participant will receive a technical tee at packet pickup. FUNDRAISING

A fundraising webpage is automatically created for everyone who registers online! Prizes for the top fundraisers. EVERYONE WHO DONATES or RAISES A MINIMUM OF $25 by July 15th will be put in our RAFFLE. Visit the fundraising link for more details! Whether you raise an extra $10.00 or $1,000.00, the Kids are grateful for your efforts! (FUNDRAISING IS OPTIONAL)

 

BE A VIP!!!

Any individual who raises over $500 in donations will have access to the VIP tent to enjoy VIP only food and drinks. It’s our way of saying “Thank You” for your effort.

 

CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES AREA

There will be an ACTIVITIES AREA FOR CHILDREN from 5:30 p.m. until the 8:00pm. Parents who feel their child is not suited for the 3 mile walk or run may check their child into this area and pick them back up after the festivities. Take advantage of this opportunity to indulge yourself with a bit of “adult time!” All parents must register and sign a waiver for children that will be in the activities area.

 

JUNIOR JOG

Junior jog as well as the 5K walk is $10 for participants 12 and under. The junior jog will commence at 8:00 allowing for ample time for walkers to complete the course. The length of the jog is dependent on the size/ability of the child. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE REGISTERED BY AN ADULT! NO EXCEPTIONS! ALL participants MUST WEAR their RACE BIB. Every child will receive an award/prize.

 

AGE GROUP PRIZES

There will be unique awards for the top 3 male and female finishers in each age group. Age groups are as follows: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64,65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and over.

 

BABY JOGGERS, WHEELS and ANIMALS

Sorry, due to course limitations, there are NO rollerblades, skateboards, bikes or animals allowed on the course. THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO RUN WITH A BABY JOGGER MUST START AFTER ALL OTHER RUNNERS AND IN A SEPERATE CORRAL. This will be STRICTLY ENFORCED! Participants with infants MUST SIGN A WAIVER for them if the child is to accompany them on the course. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

 

PACKET PICKUP

Packet Pickup will be conducted at both locations of Universal Sole as well as a south side location to be announced with further details.

There will be DISCOUNTED PARKING in the Waldron Deck. Please USE the 18th street exit off of both Northbound and Southbound LSD.

POST-RACE PARTY

Don’t let the good times end after the race! Join us for the post-race festivities on site! Who doesn’t want to hang out on the beautiful Chicago lakefront and celebrate on a warm July summer evening? Burn off some calories in the run or walk so you can enjoy the goodies afterwards!

 

REFUND POLICY

Run For The Kids does not offer refunds for ANY reason. Please make sure you can attend on Thursday, July 18, 2013 prior to registration. If for some reason you need to withdraw, your packet will be available at pick-up.
