The entire City of Chicago has suffered a tragic loss. At approximately 3:45 July 7th, Chicago Police Officer Thor Soderberg was returning to his vehicle at the end of his tour, when he became involved in a struggle with a 24-year-old male individual. During the struggle, Officer Soderberg was disarmed. The offender shot Officer Soderberg, fatally wounding him. Responding officers were able to engage and wound the offender during an exchange of gunfire before taking him into custody.
Officer Soderberg was 43-years-old and an 11-year veteran of the Department. He was most recently assigned to the Education and Training Division.
